The Dead Sea,
explained.

A landlocked salt lake. A remarkable landscape.
A place full of questions.

Turquoise Dead Sea water beside white salt deposits and desert hills
A little wonder. A lot to discover.

Why is it called
the Dead Sea?

Its very salty water keeps fish and most familiar aquatic life from surviving here. But it is not completely lifeless: salt-adapted microorganisms have been studied in the lake.
