Kibbutz Kalia has approximately 400 residents and is the largest settlement in North Basin of the Dead Sea. The kibbutz is located in the foothills of the Judean desert, near the Qumran caves. In 1929 a group of pioneers settled here engaged in the mining of salt. During the Independence War, the kibbutz was conquered and destroyed by the Jordanians’. After the Six-Day War in 1968 Kalia outpost was established, and then again in 1974 as a Kibbutz.
The origin of the name Kalia is from the Latin word kalium (potassium), one of the major minerals in the Dead Sea.
The Kibbutz is based on agriculture and tourism. Agriculture includes crops, palm grove, dairy and poultry turkeys. Tourism industry has a Guesthouse, Kalia Beach, Equestrian Center and Qumran site which includes a self-service restaurant and a shop selling cosmetics and souvenirs.
Kalia Guesthouse
The Guesthouse is surrounded by gardens and lawns, overlooks the cliffs of the Judean Desert and the ancient landscapes of the Dead Sea.
All rooms are on ground floor and include toilet and shower, Air conditioning, Coffee and TV.

Kalia Guest House is a great base for exploring the fascinating and enchanting area of the Dead Sea.

Kalia Beach has a restaurant with a terrace view to the sea, cosmetics Center of Dead Sea products, bar on the beach, cheap cozy seating, BBQ picnics and overnight camping, toilets and showers. The beach has convenient access paths for strollers and wheelchairs.

Qumran National Park
Fascinating historical site offering visitors a one of a kind experience. Here you can visit the caves where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered.

Monastery of Deir Hajleh
In the Greek Orthodox monastery of Deir Hajleh youi can discover Byzantine mosaics, ancient wall paintings, skulls and bones of monks from previous generations.

Walking on a bed of gravel along the spectacular walls will lead you to the cool water flowing in to the river until early summer months.
